TEN TEENS SELECTED FOR DECEMBER TRIP TO RAMAT NEGEVDENVER—November 30, 2005— Ten Colorado teens recently made new plans to spend ten days in Israel over their December school vacation. These ten were selected to participate in the first-ever Colorado Israel Leadership Exchange, a joint program between Colorado’s Jewish community and Ramat Negev, Denver’s sister region in Israel. During their stay in Israel, the Colorado teens will join ten Israeli teenagers from Ramat Negev. The group of 20 will learn and live together as they develop connections between the two regions and foster leadership skills. “I’m really look forward to meeting Israeli teens and finding out what they believe about what’s going on in politics today in Israel,” says Zoe Aqua, one of the teens who will participate. “I also look forward to interacting with them and building a strong relationship with them.” The trip is organized by the Allied Jewish Federation’s Israel National and Overseas Center as a Project 2000 Partnership Initiative, with support and staffing from the Colorado Agency for Jewish Education. The ten Americans were selected from a diverse array of youth programs in Colorado and are expected to share their knowledge with their respective communities upon their return. The selection committee included representatives from Rocky Mountain Rabbinical Council, B’nai Brith Youth Organization, the Loup Jewish Community Center, CAJE, Allied Jewish Federation, and the Israel National and Oversees Office. CAJE Youth Activities Coordinator Wendy Aronson will staff the trip. “This is an amazing opportunity for the teenagers and the community as a whole,” Aronson remarks. “The quality of the applications was impressive and I am pleased that we have such a diverse group of participants, including students from Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs.” The selected teens include Zoe Aqua, Katie Blahnik, Sam Forshner, Jay Herman, Hannah Hindman, Colin Hogan, Jennifer Kuzminsky, Jason Nochlin, Igor Sonkin, and Kezia Wong. This diverse group includes representatives from USY, BBYO, NFTY, Shwayder Camp, Hebrew High, JCC Camps, RMHA at the Denver Campus, and the Rose Youth Foundation. Opportunities for other teen travel are still available through the CAJE Israel Study Tour and CAJE’s new partnership with American Jewish World Service scheduled for summer 2006. CAJE is now accepting applications for both programs. Information: Roni Ogin, (303) 321.3191, ext. 216 or caje@caje-co.org.
