WHAT IS THE COLORADO ISRAEL STUDY TOUR?

  • The Colorado Israel Study tour is a community program sponsored by the Colorado Agency for Jewish Education, the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Rabbinical Council, and area synagogues.

HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?

  • Colorado IST has been in existing since 1972
  • Over 2000 students have experienced this transformation program

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN IST?

  • All Colorado Jewish students entering the 11th grade are eligible

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN IST?

  • IST is a 2-year intensive educational program divided into three parts
  • Part One—Trip Preparation
    • 2 mini-mesters at Hebrew High
      • Wednesdays from November 3-December 12 at The Jewish Community Center
      • Wednesdays from January 19-February 16 at The Jewish Community Center
    • 5 Sunday Retreats
      • November 7, 2010—Global Day of Jewish Learning
      • December 12, 2010—Arab Israeli Conflict
      • February 6, 2011—Zionism and Israel Advocacy Today
      • April 3, 2011—Eastern Europe
      • May TBD—Final trip preparation
  • Part Two—Travel
    • 5 ½ weeks of exploring Poland and Israel
  • Part Three—Trip Integration & Community Activism
    • IST Just Got Back
      • A 1 mini-mester continuation of Israel study and questioning
      • Boulder and Denver Alums integrating together
    • ISTeachers
      • ISTeachers will have the opportunity to turn their experience into classroom lessons for younger Jewish students in our community schools
      • ISTeachers receive 11/2 mini-mesters of teacher training at Hebrew High
      • Learn from experienced educators and community leaders to create lesson plans that draw upon your IST experience
      • Receive a Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching

    • CAJE Service Learning & Leadership Fellows
      • SLL Fellows prepare IST Alums to express their voice in leadership roles and active service for a lifetime of engaged citizenship
      • Take a leadership role in planning and implementing significant community events
    • Reunion events

 

PRICING

WHAT WILL IST 2011 COST?

  • The estimated cost of IST 2011 is $8600 per student
  • We hope to lower that cost with careful planning and preparation
  • A final trip cost will be available at the next family information meeting on October 13th

WHAT WILL IST INTEGRATION & COMMUNITY ACTIVISM COST?

  • IST Just Got Back is included in the price of IST 2010
  • ISTeachers
    • $125 per student
    • A significant discount from individual course pricing
  • CAJE Service Learning & Leadership Fellows
    • $525 per student plus airfare of approximately $400
    • A 30% discount is given to IST 2010 Alums
    • This includes a trip to Panim in Washington DC

IS THERE ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

  • CAJE offers several scholarship and loan programs for IST
    • Huttner Loan Depot
    • Jerusalem of Gold IST Scholarships
  • Community Partners
    • The Allied Jewish Federation through its INO division provides a subsidy for IST Students
    • Area Synagogues offer subsidies to their members.

IS MY DEPOSIT REFUNDABLE?

  • Yes.  Your IST 2011 deposit is completely refundable through December 4, 2010
