JERUSALEM WEEK
As the start of our last week starts it brings back solemn memories of
the past. Today we went to Rabin square, this is the place where one man
took it upon himself to murder Prime Minister Rabin. This event is one
that will always be in my mind. Where I was and the time it happened is
still vivid in my mind. As this day ends at Dizengoff Mall in Tel Aviv my
thoughts drift on to the next day at Yad Vashem. Today as we enter the
museum the cold air flows in to my body. This is much like the ones in DC
and New York. I was able to walk through without any problem until we held
our service in the Tent of Remembrance. This was the most moving service
of the summer. After that we moved on to the children's memorial. It is
comprised of glass and mirrors and candles and you walk through names of
the 1.5 million kids that dies are said. As I conclude this entry, I leave
you with the name, age and homeland of only one kid. Mario Constantine,
age 5, Italy. Remember this always.

July 23, 1999 - Now that we've been up for 13 hours and we've already
completed the RAMBO hike I don't feel as tired as I thought I would. We
started the morning by being woken up at 2:45 AM by Cheli's shining fact
tiptoeing into my room with 4 Jerry cans hanging from her arms and a
backpack on her back filled with maps, illustrations, and other random
things to help make our long upcoming day more exciting (as usual). All 19
kids and 4 counselors were on the bus and raring to go by 3:30. We took a
nice 1 hour 15 minute bus drive/nap to the Judean Desert and started
stumbling up a steep cliff with like 3 false peaks by 4:45 AM. After about
2 hours of intense climbing we made it to the true peak. From this point
on Rambo just became more and more worthwhile. We got to the 1st waterfall
around 11:30 and relaxed until 1:15, taking a shower in the waterfall,
eating lunch in the shade and sleeping on the unbelievably comfortable
rock. From there it was a 30 minute walk through the fresh water stream to
the huge waterfall and a pool where we were pushed forward by the pressure
of the water pouring onto our heads. It was so much fun and very
rewarding. Rambo ended with a 20 minute speed walk so that we could be
back to the hostel in time to prepare for the Sabbath.
